Emails from parents and teachers over the years.

'My son started playing cricket with Alex having never played the game before.  Alex's enthusiasm for the sport and his ability to make the sessions both fun and productive totally inspired my son and he is still playing cricket today.'

I am very grateful to Alex and BBCC for inspiring my football mad son Jake to also take up cricket. After a year at after school cricket he has now join St Peters CC too.

My son, Charlie, attended both the after school and holiday courses run by Alex of Bat and Ball Cricket Coaching for about four years.
He really enjoyed the sessions, especially as, unlike a P.E. lesson, they provided a concentrated time to learn techniques and rules, practice and, more importantly, play actual competitive games.
This was all carried out in a great atmosphere with Alex managing the elements of fun and discipline just right.
He was a great coach for Charlie, giving and earning respect, encouraging and, of course, extremely knowledgeable in his sport as well as providing an efficient out of school service for busy parents.
I was very appreciative of his organisation skills off the pitch and always felt we were given more than good value for our money.
Dee

Thank you for everything you have done for Alex over the last year or so but he won't be returning to Bat and Ball. He isn't giving up cricket though, far from it.  After joining St Peter's CC last summer on your recommendation he is doing really well and has been selected for the Under 10 hardball team!  Their Monday night practice clashes with your session so we are unable to do both. Thank you for nurturing his passion and talent and we wish you all the best for the future.

My son was coached by Alex for three years and loved every minute thanks to his patience and experience. He learned a lot of key skills but also picked up a genuine enthusiasm for the game and now plays regularly for a local team.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very happy to sing your praises.  Gilbert loved cricket training and only stopped when it clashed with something else that was impossible to change.   He always had great fun, and the club was extremely reliable only being cancelled if a tornado was coming basically!  He learnt a lot about the game, really liked the coaches and always enjoyed himself.  Also, great value for money!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My two sons attended Alex's classes over a number of year's at Downs juniors and had a lot of fun, improved their cricket skills, enjoyed interschool competitions but also learned about good sportsmanship and team work. Values that are sometimes lacking in the school play ground dominated by football.

Good luck with all your ventures Alex, many happy memories of Ben and Josh's cricket playing days at Downs. Nicky.

Alex's coaching sessions to my class of 8/9 year olds at school were great. All the kids, both boys and girls were fully involved throughout the lessons and gained loads from them and really looked forward to the next weeks session. Each child was recognised for their individual strengths and coached and encouraged at a level that suited their needs. Would highly recommend.

Alex Fenton is a brilliant coach! My son was threatening to be completely unsporty till Alex gave him a love for cricket which has made his social life much easier!

Alfie will be returning next term to cricket club but this will be his last as he will be starting at Dorothy Stringer in September.

He has really enjoyed his time at the club so a massive thank you.

Mills will not be going to Downs Cricket Club this year as he is starting big school.

Thank you for 3 years of cricket fun. Milligan's confidence really did grow under your wings.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Alex, obviously Cameron is now at Stringer school so wont be attending.
But just wanted to say without your coaching, care and patience we wouldn’t have found his love for cricket, we really do appreciate all that you have done for Cameron throughout his time with you at Elm Grove.
He looks forward to his cricket days now at St James so we will see you regularly there.
Once again heaps of thanks to you. :-)

Jem really enjoyed all the years with you and thanks so much for all your support, expertise and encouragement.

He has loved this terms cricket and it has really ignited a flame in him for the game- thanks so much!!!

We have just been told this week that Preston Nomads will be doing training for Sam's team on fridays this year. I am really sorry (and Sam more so!) but I don't feel he can do both so Sam will not be joining after school cricket this term. He has had such fun over the last few years and really appreciated your great training and support. He is really keen to come back one day and help you with training so you haven't seen the back of him yet!

Four Year 3 classes at Downs Junior School have recieved cricket coaching from Alex Fenton this summer term. The children respond well to Alex, who is quick to develop good relationships with them. He is enthusiastic, communicates very well with the children and has an easy rapport with them. Alex is very knowledgable, explaining activities well to the children - many of his ways of explaining cricket skills and techniques have also improved teachers' confidence in delivering cricket sessions. The sessions have a good pace, a good range of activities and provide all children with an opportunity to develop their skills and confidence, whatever their level. Alex is particularly good at spotting children's specific strengths and areas for development, and at helping and motivating each child to achieve. Children are motivated and excited on the days when they know Alex is coming. Some are calmer and more focussed when returning to class after a good work out. We - the teachers and children - have all greatly enjoyed and valued the sessions.

My class and year group (year 2) have recently taken part in a Chance to Shine initiative for cricket coaching. I would
like to comment on how much my class enjoyed these cricket sessions.

At the beginning many of the children didn't believe they knew anything about this sport or could try and play it but after just a couple of the coaching sessions their confidence had grown and they are all more willing to try something new.

The children were very enthusiastic about the cricket sessions and the sessions were well organised and highly apporpriate to the age group. The coach was extremely professional and had a very positive manner with the children.

After a few sessions the children had undoubedly improved their skills and their confidence in the different aspects of the sport and many of them have said they would like to continue playing it in the future.

I have also learned a lot from Alex and I will try to continue teaching aspects of cricket in my PE lessons.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity,

Clare Chaplin

First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to Alex for his cricket support. I am not very knowlegeable about cricket and now feel better equipped to teach it.

I can honestly say that the children really enjoy the sessions and are excited to be participating in them. This has been particularly noticeable with less confident sports pupils.

My class has a large number of loud/ dominant pupils but Alex has a firm yet fair approach when working with them. He has high expectations of behaviour as well as being supportive to those who struggle or are excelling and the children respond well to him. It has been good to see those who are less keen on P.E. enjoying the cricket sessions.

I have some children with behavioural problems and I've noticed that they have tried really hard in these sessions. Some have ADHD but have tried to focus and pupils on the Autistic spectrum have worked hard with partners or in groups which they sometimes find difficult.

Alex had a good range of activities and the pace of the lessons was good. He has helped increase the children's and my own enthusiasm for cricket. We would enjoy working with Alex again.

During the Summer term Alex Fenton visited Balfour Junior School to offer cricket coaching to 3, Year 5 classes. Each class looked forward to these weekly sessions and thoroughly enjoyed them, especially as they were being taught by an expert rather than their class teachers!

Each session was extremely well organised, and Alex had a good rapport with the children across the year group.

All 3 classes were enthusiastic and keen to learn skills and it gave those children who already ‘played’ cricket at a club the chance to shine. Those new to the sport certainly improved over the sessions and some said they would possibly join an after school cricket club as they were enthused by Alex’s teaching and new found skills.

Alex’s teaching enabled all children to succeed and those in one particular class, who at times could be quite challenging, rose to the challenge of learning new skills and behaved well during the sessions.

The teachers and teaching assistants who accompanied their classes feel more confident and better equipped to teach cricket in the future.
